Multispecies Storytelling and Living in Endtimes: Conference Recap

Over the last few months, I’ve taken part in some really interesting virtual conferences to talk about my latest research projects.

The Multispecies Storytelling conference was put on by the Centre for Critical Animal Studies at Edge Hill University, and looked at ways of “looking at nature through a more-than-human lens.” Check out more about the ongoing UKRI-funded project here.

“Cartography of Species: Chicken World”, by a multispecies mapping workshop participant in 2019.

My presentation focused on my work with multispecies mapping workshops with communities in Mexico. The workshop asked participants to imagine and represent an area of the community they knew well from a “more-than-human” perspective. Some of the results were a fascinating look at how different people are tuned into their surrounding environments.

In January 2021, I took part in Cappadocia University’s conference Living in the End Times: Utopian and Dystopian Representations of Pandemics in Fiction, Film and Culture. I added so many dystopian novels to my reading list this week! Check out the full conference program here. My talk, “Ecotopia Abroad: Apocalypse Anxieties and Sustainable Imaginaries of ‘Lifestyle Migrants’ in Mexico”, is being prepared for journal publication shortly. Keep your eyes peeled!
